Danielle Li is the David Sarnoff Professor of Management of Technology at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She studies the economics of innovation and labor, with particular attention to how organizations evaluate ideas, projects and people. She is also a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Li co-authored Generative AI at Work with Erik Brynjolfsson and Lindsey Raymond. Using data from a customer-support firm’s introduction of a generative AI assistant, the researchers found that access to the tool improved productivity, with larger gains among less-experienced workers. The finding describes assistance in a particular workplace rather than the performance of autonomous AI agents across organizations. Her broader research on evaluation and hiring offers a complementary perspective on the human decisions surrounding the use of new tools.
