Keith D. Brouthers
Keith D. Brouthers is a professor of business strategy at King’s College London whose research focuses on international strategic management. His interests include how firms select foreign-market entry modes and export channels.
In a study with Lance Eliot Brouthers and Steve Werner, he examined international entry choices using both real-options and transaction-cost reasoning. The study reported results for samples of Dutch and Greek firms entering Central and Eastern European markets; those findings should not be treated as a universal rule for investment decisions. With Edith Ipsmiller and Desislava Dikova, Brouthers also reviewed empirical real-options research in management. That review is particularly relevant to strategic optionality because it separates the appeal of deferring or staging commitments from the still-incomplete evidence about when options improve performance.
