ABOUT

Luigi Zingales

Luigi Zingales is the Robert C. McCormack Distinguished Service Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. His research interests include corporate governance, financial development, political economy, and the economic effects of trust and culture.

With Luigi Guiso and Paola Sapienza, Zingales examined whether corporate values advertised publicly corresponded to measures of performance. Their research found no significant relationship for the proclaimed values they studied, but found positive associations when employees perceived top managers as trustworthy and ethical. This challenges the use of a values list as a substitute for evidence about lived culture; it does not demonstrate that a particular management change will improve performance. Zingales has also written about markets and their political pressures, including in Saving Capitalism from the Capitalists, coauthored with Raghuram G. Rajan, and A Capitalism for the People.
