ABOUT

Brian Wu

Brian Wu, identified by Michigan Ross as Xun (Brian) Wu, is the Robert G. Rodkey Collegiate Professor of Business Administration and a professor of strategy at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business. His research examines corporate scope and the evolution of industries.

In a conceptual article with Daniel A. Levinthal, Wu examines how a firm might move a scarce resource toward a new best use. They distinguish the possibility of using a resource elsewhere from managers’ ability to compare its potential uses and make the move. A resource’s value may depend on other activities, while organizational boundaries and decision rights affect who can redeploy it. The article explains why identifying a promising alternative does not, by itself, ensure redeployment; it does not measure how often redeployment succeeds.
